During the interview process for a position at Pinnacle, I was tasked with creating some hypothetical designs as a demonstration of my skills.

BRIEF

Design a promotional banner in three sizes for the up-coming Pinnacle Cup Championship at the Sparbanken Skåne Arena in Lund, Sweden.

The banner should feature the Pinnacle Cup logo and the event dates: 6-11 June 2022.

DIRECTION

My aim with this design was to create graphics that are equally unique and eye-catching, as well as being in line with the Pinnacle brand and easily recognisable to the Counter-Strike audience it was directed towards.

Hero (1024 x 512)

Instagram stories (1080 x 1920)

Onsite message (750 x 253)

Elements to Consider:

• Pinnacle blue and orange brand colours

• Orange streaks, as featured in previous Pinnacle Cup banners

• Partners/Sponsors

• A flexible design that can be adapted to various dimensions

• Iconic CS:GO aesthetics and game mechanics (T vs. CT, weapons, skins, spray patterns, cross hairs, maps, bomb plants, chickens…)

• Is the depiction of violence/weapons acceptable in this setting?

• Sand, wall and metal textures

Design C

Design A (above) features two rivals facing off against each other, reflecting the competitive nature of Counter-Strike and esports as a whole. This gives the opportunity to include details such as weapons and popular skins, as well as vibrant colours, smoke or explosions to make the design stand out.

Design B and C (right) exchange the concept of rivals for team work. I have incorporated a rough satellite map of the Sparbanken Skåne Arena and surrounding area, to play on the role maps play in CS. I would consider refining this to resemble the map style more closely if I were to develop this design further. Additional graphic elements such as streaks and cross hairs in hot orange and yellow would compliment and structure the design.
